A story contribution to 2011: The Year of Idaho Food
On Wednesday, September 21st, the Boise School District held what they called “Harvest Day.” The event was held in cafeterias district-wide with local foods dominating the menus. Locally produced foods included trout patties, baked potatoes and local tortillas, as well as fresh zucchini, cucumbers, cabbage, onions, watermelon and nectarines. Over 21,000 students had local foods as part of an event that also included agriculture-related trivia contests and prizes.
